Merlin’s Pest Control lists the most common springtime pests and stinging insects to infest your Northern New Jersey home and property.
Spring Swarming Bees: One of the most common pests during the spring are bees. There are several species of bees in Northern New Jersey and many of them are docile and do their best to stay busy but some are aggressive and need little provocation. Stinging insects, as they name suggests, have a stinger. If you are stung you are sure to have a reaction. Some are more of an irritant but some can be very severe. If you have an allergy to bee stings you could have a severe reaction that can lead to anaphylactic shock which requires immediate attention by a health care professional. Bees like to be around flowers which bloom in the spring time. The bees go from each flower and pollinate them and collect nectar at the same time.
Wasps Can Sting Multiple Times: Wasps sting much like bees. They have a lot of the same properties that a bee sting has and can cause the same amount of health concerns. Wasps like to be around the water and if you have a pool or a fountain near your home you may start to see them flying around. You can even see them flying around sprinklers. They are more aggressive than bees and don’t need much provocation to go on the attack.
Mosquitoes Come Out In the Spring: Just like bees and wasps; mosquitoes also enjoy water. They like water that is standing. It doesn’t need to be fresh; in fact the dirtier the better for mosquitoes. Mosquitoes are bad for your health if you are bit by one that is infected with a virus or disease. One of the viruses that are all the rage is the Zika Virus that is running rampant in some areas of the world and even here in the US. Mosquitoes also are known to carry other dangerous diseases such as West Nile Virus and Chikungunya to name a few.
